This 1 Thing Helped Me Move Forward As An Entrepreneur

Back in 2018. YEP you read that right, 2018!!!! I had decided to become an entrepreneur, but I was only calling myself that, I wasn’t actually doing anything about it other than researching and pinning like crazy on Pinterest.

For a while I felt like everything was going at a good steady pace and although I had my days of pure pandemonium here and again I was happy and excited at the wonderful possibilities. But a few months in I lost ALL momentum, not a little, not half, not a smidge, but ALL of it! And I wanted it back!

Now I want to point out that at that time, the business I was focusing on was my baking business, I give you all the details about that switch here.

So when I tried to figure out when it started slipping away, I believed it was when I started receiving negative feedback on my products and so many different opinions on my pricing and vision in general.

I didn’t realize it then, but my subconscious really took note. I took some vacation time with the family for the holidays and my birthday (shout out to the Christmas babies!) and just didn’t think about anything work related, from my 9 to 5 or from my budding little business. It was when I got back and went to get back into the swing of things that it became apparent that I just didn’t have that drive that was pushing me before.

Long story made short…

I needed to reprogram my brain, or at least that’s what I felt was going to help me out of my slump.

So I started researching books geared toward ‘women’, ‘black women’ and ‘female entrepreneurs’. I came across a few lists and started to compile my new “I need a kick in the ass” reading list. I ordered a few books that all came at the same time and it was just something about the name and the almost suede feeling cover that called to me.

That book was Girl Code by Cara Alwil Leyba. You can see my review of it here.

Let me just say that it definitely lit a fire under my ass and in my heart. I felt like I could finally get back to work and take the action I needed, and I am so thankful to her for writing that book, and for also being the coach I needed later on to help me find my way as an entrepreneur.

The 1 thing that helped me move forward as an entrepreneur: The decision I made to WANT to change my life.

And Cara’s book was the catalyst!
