How To Stop The Negative Self-Talk

How to Stop the negative self talk.png

You go to do that thing… you know the one, the one that is about to catapult you out of your comfort zone and into the exciting yet scary world of change.

Then up pops the negative self-talk!

And then the game of whack-a-mole starts, as you try to whack the thoughts away and battle them down into submission.

My friend, I know how you feel! The good news is that you can make those negative thoughts work out in your favor and not feel like you’re in a constant battle with your thoughts.

So let’s help you tame the negative thoughts that plague you.

Identify the thought

Let’s go back to the moment you were going to do that thing again.

  • What was the first thought that came to mind?

  • How did the thought make you feel?

If any of the thoughts gave you a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, lowered your vibration/mood, or brought up more negative thoughts then we’ve GOT A WINNER!!!!

Now that you know what thought to work on…

Be a gentle observer

Take in the thoughts and ask yourself questions to try to identify if it’s fear, indecision, or resistance so you can dig it out at the root!!

Here are some questions you can use to get you started:

  • What do I need to understand/learn?

  • How is this not serving/helping me?

  • What am I not willing to consider?

  • How can I see this in a better light?

And this all leads you to be able to…

Process what came up

If you can identify now the root, it’s time to start digging the little sucker up and OUT. So let’s process it, dissect it, accept it and take in the learning lesson.

Ok, you done now? Good

Now, disprove it!

Why is it ultimately not true? Just grab a pen and paper and let it all out. Because the thought is not true, you want to start to loosen the hold that thought has on your mind.

You’ve found the roots, and now you’re loosening the grip they have on you.

Create your power statement

You’ve done well and can think clearly around the negative thought by this point. We can now begin to heal the belief by creating a power statement.

“Words are powerful, and the stories we tell ourselves manifests into our realities.”

Turn the negative into a powerful and opposite statement. As long as you believe it, you’re good. If for some reason the opposite thought doesn’t feel right to you then play around with the statement until it’s something you can really get behind.

When you say the statement to yourself if it uplifts your spirit and lights you up within, then you’ve got yourself a winner!

Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Your power statement is your new mantra.

Say it over and over again.

Use it as a screensaver.

Anytime you go to do that thing and you feel a little hesitant, bring up your power statement and take it to town.

Flip that thought on it’s head and start to feel better!
