I Stopped One Business to Start Another

Did you know I had another business before I started as a coach?

Cakes! I owned a business doing bespoke fondant cakes! I’m so serious! Bet you didn’t see that one coming ;-)

I have always loved to bake, and from what I hear, I’m quite good at it! So I figured it was the perfect thing to make money, that I could eventually turn into a full-time business.

I knew there was a market for it. I knew I was capable. But what I wasn’t sure of, is if I really wanted to do it full-time or if there was another avenue of baking that I would enjoy more.

What did I do to figure it out?

I got a job! Well, another one! I figured out a way to work in a baking department of a full service kitchen 2-3 days a week, on top of my regular 9-5, so I could learn and experience baking on a larger scale. While I enjoyed it at first, I came to realize that it was not going to work for the lifestyle I had come to dream of.

Complete freedom of time.

I would be beholden to early morning hours, which I hate, and work every holiday, which is also a no go considering my birthday is 2 days before christmas. I found the things I did enjoy were, recipe creation, and cake designing. They were all things that I could’ve made work if I had wanted, I just made a choice not to continue in that moment of time.

I was still missing that moment when you help someone with something and they just light up like a light bulb because they figured it out, AKA- The Lightbulb Moment.

So I went back to the drawing board. I started searching for answers and came across a book called ‘Girl Code’ by Cara Alwil Leyba (you can read my review of it here) and something just clicked into place. Cara is a life coach and helps women work on their mindset to create a life and business they love, and I followed everything she put out as I figured out exactly what to do and how to get started.

I wanted to be a life coach. I wanted to help others, especially women figure out how to turn their dreams into reality.

It was a process deciding specifically how I wanted to help, but I knew it would involve business for sure, since I geek out anytime someone mentions starting  a business. But what came as a surprise was deciding to also work on mindset. From what I’ve been told by lots of people is that I have a unique ability to be motivating without realizing it sometimes. Once I learned some additional tools with NLP(Neuro-Linguistic Programming), EFT(Emotional Freedom Techniques) AKA Tapping, and Hypnosis, I knew that this was the key to really helping women create lasting change on their journey to success.

I had a vision, and then it changed. I went with the change and made that switch. I don’t regret it!

If you think that what you are doing isn’t the right fit just yet, then change it! Do what you have to do to figure it out!

You won’t regret it, I promise!
