Mother's Day Gift Guide: The Thoughtful Edition

Thoughtful ideas meant to bring a tear to her eye and warmth to her heart!

Thoughtful ideas meant to bring a tear to her eye and warmth to her heart!

It’s that special time of year again where we celebrate the life givers of this world, Mother’s Day!!

For that special woman in our lives, we often debate what’s the perfect gift to show just how special she is and how much she means to us.

You can go the traditional route:

  • Flowers

  • Jewelry

  • Perfume

  • Dinner: In or Out

  • Candy

  • Store-bought Cards

  • Shoes

  • Purses

While there is nothing wrong with these gifts -my mother is often dropping very obvious hints for these things- sometimes it’s more fun and welcome to give them something thoughtful and moving.

ALERT*** Please make sure you know your audience folks! If you know thoughtful gifts just aren’t appreciated, be mindful, everyone has their preferences! We want what we want 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Just to be sure you’re on the right track, ask yourself these questions about your mom before you move forward:

  • What does she like to do in her free time?

  • What are her favorite TV shows/ Movies?

  • Where are some of her favorite places to go?

  • Does she like to go out or stay in?

  • What kinds of food does she enjoy eating?

  • Does she have a favorite kind of drink -alcoholic or not?

  • What does she appreciate more?

    • Gifts

    • Words/Cards/Notes

    • Being with/Spending time with you

    • Things getting done for her

The answers to these questions will give you an idea of what your mom enjoys and things she might appreciate as a gift.

Now to the fun!! The gift ideas!!

🌟 Handmade Card - Grab some supplies from your local store or get a card making kit like this one from amazon and make her a card. You might want to have some really heartfelt and thoughtful words prepared.

A good start would be to think about:

  • Your favorite memory

  • How has she impacted your life positively

  • What does the word ‘mother’ mean to you

  • What would you have NOT been able to do without her

🌟 Slideshow - Get together a collection of your favorite and funniest pictures of you and your mom and even your siblings if you have any. You can use something like Smilebox for a creative mix to include music and text, Microsoft powerpoint, Google slides, iMovie or another platform. Turn her into the star of the show, and show her off on social media and make her feel special!

🌟 Coupons - Make up your own with something like these from Amazon, or even try some of their pre-made ones like these and do some special things for her that are just nice, take something off her plate or cater to her!

🌟 Home Cooked Dinner - Put together a grocery list and have it delivered with instacart and whether you’re cooking for her or doing it together via Zoom, FaceTime or something similar, enjoy her favorite foods together. And the best part about instacart is you can get it delivered right to her door as a surprise to do together if you’re too far to drop off a home cooked meal or have delivered to you and cook it for her at home together!

🌟 Hand-Picked Gift Basket - Make her a gift basket! Put together all of her favorite things, add in that hand-made card, coupons and maybe some of the traditional go-to’s and pack into this kit and she’ll know it was made just for her!

And an even better idea is to put it all together and turn it into an extravaganza!! This was a fun idea that me and my cousins all pitched in and surprised our moms with one Mother’s Day, with a  brunch cooked by us, a whole bunch of hand-made gifts, good food, a pitcher of Sangria and lots of pictures for them to take with them using this cute Fijufilm instax camera!

And if all else fails I get inspiration and gifts from my favorite places:

-Amazon *If you don’t have Amazon Prime yet, I highly recommend it!

-Etsy

I hope you enjoyed this! I’ve got plenty of fond memories from all of the thoughtful gifts I’ve given my mom over the years, and she still has many of them!
